ASIC (Digital) Design Engineer (all genders)
Join to apply for the ASIC (Digital) Design Engineer (all genders) role at GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research
GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. In the next few years, the new FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) will be built in international cooperation. GSI and FAIR offer the opportunity to work together in this international environment with a team of employees committed to ensuring each day to conduct world‑class science.
The Experiment Electronics department supports science experiments and projects at GSI/FAIR in all electronics‑related tasks.
Our strengths are detector readout, data acquisition, data analysis, and the monitoring and control of single detectors, as well as complex large‑scale detector systems. We support scientists in planning, implementation and application of novel technologies, including those that go beyond state‑of‑the‑art systems.
Posting :The ASIC design group is engaged in the design, subsequent test and characterization of highly complex mixed‑signal ASICs. A powerful CAD environment for design and simulation, a modern machinery under clean‑room conditions, and a well‑equipped test laboratory are available. The working group is embedded in the team of the experiment electronics department with about 30 highly skilled and qualified people. We offer exceptional expertise in analog and digital electronics.
Yourtasks
- Participation in the development of concepts for ASIC‑based detector readout architectures
- Development of mixed‑signal ASICs for the readout of particle detectors in high‑energy physics in collaboration with the design team
- Independent and self‑dependent development of digital and mixed signal circuits based on VHDL description
- Test and characterization of prototypes in the laboratory
- Work in our clean room (die bonding and wire bonding)
- Support and assistance for our experiment groups
- Graduate in electronics, physics or equivalent experience
- Knowledge and experience with nuclear physics experiments
- Very good knowledge in digital electronics and VHDL description
- Experience in simulation of HDL codes, static timing analysis, and usage of tools for netlist synthesis and place & route
- Experience in netlist‑on‑top as well as schematic‑on‑top design flows
