W2-Professorship “Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering” University of Applied Sciences

Trier University of Applied Sciences offers around 1,600 students the opportunity to pursue interdisciplinary and future-oriented studies at the Birkenfeld Environmental Campus, Germany’s first zero‑emission campus. This provides ideal conditions for tapping into new potential, finding innovative solutions to the challenges of our time, and teaching and researching in a practice‑oriented manner. A team‑oriented and cooperative working environment is central to our campus concept: living, learning, working.

Description

The following professorship in the field of computer science is to be filled as soon as possible in the Faculty of Environmental Planning/ Environmental Technology at the Birkenfeld Environmental Campus:

W2-Professorship “Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering”

Tasks

The department of computer science stands for application‑oriented education, a clear focus on innovative topics in research, and interdisciplinary projects in both areas of the subject. In third‑party funded research, which is usually carried out in cooperation with partners from industry, projects with an annual volume of around 2 million euros are handled at the Institute for Software Systems.

The professorship is responsible for teaching and research in the field of artificial intelligence and software engineering. We are looking for a committed individual who will represent and further develop this field in both theoretical and practical terms in bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in the Department of Environmental Planning/Environmental Technology (UP/UT), particularly in computer science and engineering programs. The planned teaching includes courses in the areas of “Software Engineering and Distributed Systems” and “Operating Systems” at the bachelor’s level and “Optimization and Machine Learning” at the master’s level.

Courses are to be offered in German and English.

In addition to a high level of commitment to teaching, participation in the academic self‑administration of the university is also expected.

The state of Rhineland‑Palatinate and Trier University of Applied Sciences advocate a supervision concept that expects a high level of presence from teaching staff at the university location.

As a department, we offer a professional, collegial, and supportive environment with plenty of freedom to carry out applied research and transfer projects. Research activities are encouraged and can reduce the teaching load. We offer and expect committed cooperation within our team.
