AboutThe Role
As Instrumentation Operations Technician, your role is responsible for maintaining the safe, reliable and efficient operation of instrumentation and control equipment to maximise asset availability and performance.
Why This Role MattersAs an Instrumentation Operations Technician, you will help ensure the continued integrity, availability and performance of essential transmission assets, keeping energy flowing safely and efficiently across the network.
Your expertise will contribute directly to operational resilience, safety compliance and the successful delivery of maintenance, inspection and improvement activities. Through your work, you will help protect people, communities and infrastructure while supporting the transition to a secure energy future.
What You'll Be Doing- Carrying out installation, inspection, commissioning, operation, maintenance and repair activities on transmission assets, including terminals, compressor stations, pipelines and AGIs.
- Performing fault diagnosis and rectification activities to maximise asset availability, reliability and operational performance.
- Implementing safe systems of work, issuing permits and establishing isolations to ensure work is completed safely and in accordance with operational procedures.
- Maintaining accurate maintenance, operational, asset and compliance records to meet regulatory and business requirements.
- Supporting construction, commissioning and asset replacement projects, providing technical expertise and contributing to minor modifications and system improvements.
- Participating in emergency response activities, standby rotas and site incident management, including undertaking incident controller responsibilities when required.
- Monitoring contractor activities and pipeline protection programmes to ensure technical, operational and safety standards are consistently achieved
This role would suit someone who thrives in a hands-on engineering environment and enjoys solving technical challenges while maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.
- Proven operational and maintenance experience within a relevant engineering discipline such as Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics or Control Systems.
- Experience of maintaining, fault-finding and repairing equipment within the oil and gas sector or a comparable process industry environment.
- Knowledge of inspection and maintenance activities on equipment installed within hazardous areas.
- Experience of working within safe systems of work and applying operational safety procedures.
- Understanding of process plant operation and associated engineering systems and equipment.
- Strong knowledge of relevant engineering, health and safety and legislative requirements.
- A recognised apprenticeship and Level 3 engineering qualification (or equivalent), together with a full UK driving licence.
- Comp Ex certification relevant to your engineering discipline and hazardous area equipment.
- City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing qualification.
- City & Guilds 2377 Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) qualification.
This role is subject to National Security Vetting (NSV). Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain Security Clearance (SC) throughout their employment. For further information, visit (UK Security Vetting: Clearance Levels).
