As Principal UX Designer – Checkout & Payments (m/f/d), you will shape seamless, high-converting checkout and payment experiences across Shopware’s ecosystem, balancing merchant flexibility, technical constraints, compliance requirements, and shopper trust. Your work will directly influence conversion rates, transaction success, and partner integrations (e.g., Pay Pal and other PSPs).

This position can be filled on-site, hybrid, or full-remote within Germany or specific European countries where we are registered. Your work location will be agreed upon in advance and forms the basis of your employment contract.
These are your tasks- End-to-End UX Ownership:
You will own the complete UX design process for payments and checkout experiences, managing everything from discovery to delivery to ensure a seamless, consistent user experience. - Designing User Flows and UI Patterns:
You will design user flows, interaction concepts, and scalable UI patterns, with a focus on enhancing the checkout and payment experience across Shopware’s ecosystem. - Improving Conversion:
You will work to improve checkout conversion rates, identify points of friction, and work on reducing drop-offs, ensuring the process is intuitive and efficient for merchants and shoppers alike. - Collaboration Across Teams:
You will collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and external partners as well as senior leadership, ensuring alignment across all stakeholders to deliver a cohesive, high-quality user experience. - Translating Payment Logic into Intuitive Designs:
You will translate complex payment logic into intuitive user experiences, while maintaining alignment with technical requirements and compliance standards. - Workshops and Validation with Merchants:
You will run discovery workshops and validate your concepts with merchants, ensuring the solutions are user‑centric and address their specific needs. - Defining Edge Cases and Error Handling:
You will define edge cases, system states, and error handling to ensure robustness and clarity in all user scenarios. - Contributing to Design System:
You will contribute to Shopware’s design system and ensure platform consistency, ensuring the best practices are adopted across the platform and expand it’s reach to mobile experiences. - Data-Driven Iteration:
You will use data, experiments, and qualitative insights to iterate and continuously improve the user experience, ensuring it evolves in line with user needs and business goals.
- With a background as a Senior UX Designer or Principal Designer, you bring extensive expertise in e‑commerce or payments to the role. If we could wish, your experience includes a proven track record of designing high-converting, intuitive user flows for checkout and payments.
- A strong understanding of technical constraints and compliance requirements in payment systems ensures that your designs are both user‑friendly and compliant with regulatory standards.
- Experience working with cross‑functional teams (Product, Engineering, Marketing) has equipped you with the ability to create seamless user experiences while aligning business objectives with technical feasibility.
