Role and Responsibilities:

We are looking for an HPC System Administrator to join our HPC Systems Operation group. You'll be responsible for the day‑to‑day operation, maintenance, and optimization of our HPC clusters, ensuring maximum performance and availability. These HPC clusters comprise the national supercomputer at LRZ as well as additional state‑wide HPC clusters of various size.

• Deploy, configure, and maintain HPC clusters.
• Automate routine tasks using scripting (Bash, Python).
• Operate Ethernet networks and HPC interconnects.
• Maintain system security, apply patches, and implement security measures.
• Hunt and fix bugs, often in collaboration with vendor companies.
• Document systems and procedures.

• University degree (master or above) in computer science, mathematics, or natural sciences
• At least three years of experience in high-performance computing
• Solid experience with Linux servers in a large‑scale environment
• Proficiency in the system administration of Linux servers including security considerations and hardening
• Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g. Shell, Python)
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
• Excellent German and English in writing and speaking

• Experience in the installation and operation of Linux clusters with cluster‑management tools like xCAT or confluent
• Experience with Ethernet networks, High‑Performance Interconnects, and Parallel File systems.
• Knowledge about compiled programming languages (e.g. C, C++)
• Ability to develop and implement practical solutions autonomously as well as in a team
• Service‑oriented attitude
