Summary

Serves as a Nurse (Lactation Consultant) providing specialized professional nursing services in the field of lactation, including comprehensive assessment, intervention, education, and care coordination for breastfeeding mothers and infants.

• Performs lactation assessments for breastfeeding mothers and infants beginning at birth and continuing throughout the breastfeeding period.
• Evaluates feeding effectiveness, identifies abnormalities or complications, and initiates appropriate nursing interventions.
• Maintains accurate, current, and complete clinical records in the proper format, ensuring documentation reflects pertinent observations, treatments, and patient progress.
• Provides education to breastfeeding mothers and families, offering guidance on breastfeeding techniques, infant feeding expectations, and management of common lactation challenges.
• Maintains knowledge of available community resources, makes appropriate referrals to social services or medical providers, and contributes to the overall administrative functioning of the Pediatric Department.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

• This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so and periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records.
• This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete and maintain credentialing and privileging requirements.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• Work requires lifting and moving moderate to heavy items up to 30 lbs.
• This position has a mandatory annual seasonal influenza immunization requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations in accordance with Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 6205.02.
• This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations.
• This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug test and random drug testing.
• This position is identified as Mission Essential which may require you to work or remain at work during an emergency situation or when inclement weather has curtailed operations.
• This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
• Must obtain and maintain full qualification and current licensure as a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) or an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
