Job SummaryThe Information Systems (IS) team supports all of Canonical’s IT production services, running services used by over 60 million Ubuntu users. As an SRE & Gitops engineer, you will automate operations, improve infrastructure as code (IaC), and contribute to open‑source tools that run at scale.

Responsibilities- Apply IaC experience to develop and improve automation practices.
- Automate software operations across private and public clouds.
- Develop features that enhance resilience and scalability of Canonical’s cloud and container portfolio.
- Maintain operational responsibility for core services, networks, and infrastructure.
- Use observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch to monitor and alert.
- Collaborate with development teams on service architecture, documentation, and operational procedures.
- Assist distributed engineering, operations, and support peers.
- Focus on larger projects and automation of manual tasks.
- Share best practices with teammates via design sessions and mentorship.
- Handle time‑critical escalations.
- Deep experience defining operations in code with version control, peer review, and CI/CD.
- Strong engineering background (unit testing, SCM, CI/CD, Agile).
- Python development experience on large projects.
- Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
- Affinity for Linux storage solutions (Ceph, databases).
- Hands‑on administration of enterprise Linux servers.
- Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies.
- Bachelor’s degree or greater, preferably in computer science or related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication in English.
- Motivated, detail‑oriented and willing to troubleshoot from kernel to web.
- Fast learner and adaptable to changing environments.
- Passion for open‑source, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
