Molex is currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development, validation, and qualification of connector and interconnect products.
This role combines hands‑on laboratory engineering with mechanical design, giving you the opportunity to take concepts from CAD and prototype development through testing and technical validation. You will design mechanical parts, assemblies, and test fixtures while performing mechanical, environmental, and reliability testing to support product development and customer requirements.
The ideal candidate is a pragmatic, hands‑on engineer with solid mechanical design fundamentals who enjoys combining CAD design, prototyping, testing, problem-solving, and data analysis in an engineering laboratory environment.
Our Team
You will work as part of a collaborative engineering environment supporting the development and qualification of connector systems and related electromechanical products. The role works closely with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supplier teams to resolve design and testing challenges, improve product manufacturability, and ensure solutions meet technical and customer requirements.
This is a particularly hands‑on position for an engineer who enjoys validating engineering concepts experimentally and working across both product design and laboratory testing activities.
What You Will Do
- Design mechanical parts, assemblies, and test fixtures using 3D/2D CAD, and create engineering drawings incorporating GD&T principles.
- Develop and execute mechanical, environmental, and reliability tests for connector products, including electrical, thermal, vibration, humidity, and mating‑cycle testing.
- Build and troubleshoot prototypes, test fixtures, and harness assemblies, using appropriate laboratory equipment and hands‑on assembly techniques.
- Analyse test results and prepare technical documentation to support design reviews, qualification activities, and customer requirements.
- Support DFMEA, tolerance analysis, DFM/DFA, and design improvement activities, collaborating with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supplier teams.
- Manage engineering documentation, CAD files, BOMs, and design changes through PLM/PDM systems, while supporting laboratory equipment, calibration, and safety requirements.
Who You Are (Key Requirements)
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Mechatronics, Materials Science, or a related engineering discipline.
- Solid hands‑on professional experience in mechanical/electrical design, prototype fabrication, or engineering test laboratory environments.
- Proficiency with 3D/2D CAD, such as Solid Works, Creo, or equivalent, including assemblies, surfacing, and engineering drawing creation.
- Good understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including tolerance analysis, GD&T, material properties, fasteners, and basic mechanisms.
- Practical laboratory skills, including building test fixtures, wiring harnesses, basic soldering, and operating common test equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with good attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and reports.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Experience in connector or electromechanical product design, including testing such as contact resistance, insulation resistance, and high‑voltage.
- Experience with engineering standards, FEA/simulation, and product validation within an R&D or qualification environment.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, including injection molding, metal stamping, and plating.
- Familiarity with PLM/PDM and manufacturing systems, along with exposure to Lean/continuous improvement and project…
