Freelance Consultant – Lean Transformation and Coaching | 75% Remote | 3 Year Contract
Our client is a leading IT service provider supporting critical federal and public sector infrastructure in Germany. Operating within a highly secure and complex environment, they deliver large-scale transformation and digitalisation programmes. They are seeking an experienced Lean Transformation Consultant to enable sustainable efficiency and productivity improvements across internal programme teams.
Role Overview- Provide structured Lean coaching across the full programme lifecycle to support measurable efficiency and productivity gains
- Plan, facilitate, and follow up on programme-relevant workshops, work sessions, and improvement activities
- Identify optimisation potential and implement sustainable improvement measures within internal teams
- Conduct in-depth analyses (“deep dives”) to identify root causes and define prioritised action plans
- Measure impact and success of implemented improvements using structured performance metrics
- Continuously report progress and outcomes to programme management
- Further develop and refine existing Lean training concepts and materials (templates, presentations, handouts)
- Deliver trainings, workshops, and coaching sessions on Lean fundamentals, methods, and programme-specific approaches
- Lead structured boot camps at the start of Lean implementation waves
- Enable teams to independently identify, plan, and execute continuous improvement initiatives
- Train and mentor internal Lean coaches through hands‑on, on‑the‑job knowledge transfer
- Apply structured project management methodologies, including risk management, dependency analysis, audit preparation, and documentation standards, particularly within public sector environments
- Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience in Lean transformation, operational excellence, or organisational development
- Recent experience (within the last four years) working as a Lean Coach for at least 12 months
- Proven experience delivering Lean trainings and workshops across multiple organisations
- Strong expertise in Lean Management, Continuous Improvement (KVP), and process optimisation methodologies
- Hands‑on experience with tools such as DMAIC, PDCA, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, and Root Cause Analysis
- Project management experience within complex or public sector environments
- Experience in project auditing, risk and dependency analysis, and structured reporting
- Valid certification in Project Management (IPMA Level D / GPM, PMP, CAPM, or PRINCE2 Practitioner)
- Valid Six Sigma Green Belt certification (e.g. ASQ, IASSC, or TÜV)
- Fluent German (C1) and good working English (B1+)
- Bonus:
Experience supporting large federal transformation programmes within highly regulated environments
