We are looking for a curious, committed and highly motivated Master’s student to join our Bionutrients Excellence team in the Innovation Department for a 6-month Master thesis project starting from March 1, 2025, to support our Bionutrients application development program.

The project will focus on conducting experiments to demonstrate the performance and functionalities of Ohly’s yeast-derived bionutrients (X-SEED® products) in various fermentation processes. You will contribute to our innovation pipeline by generating meaningful application data.

The role & Your tasks

• Design and execute experiments in the areas of fermentation and microbiology
• Conduct lab-scale microbial fermentations using various setups (e.g. microtiter plates, flasks, bioreactors) with minimal supervision
• Evaluate the effect of yeast-derived bionutrients in fermentation media and assess fermentation profiles
• Perform full physical, biological, and chemical characterization of tested products
• Analyze data, interpret results, and draw meaningful conclusions
• Develop and improve methodologies and experimental protocols
• Effectively visualize and present data in reports and presentations
• Present findings to the team and contribute to application studies
• Participate in lab management activities (e.g. cleaning, preparing SOPs) safety initiatives of the department

Your profile

• Enrolled in a Master’s program in Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, Microbiology, or related field with focus on microbiology, industrial biotechnology, biology
• Previous hands-on experience in the field of fermentation, including operating lab-scale bioreactor is strongly preferred
• Theoretical knowledge of microbial metabolism and physiology as well as fermentation principles
• Previous lab experience in microbiology and aseptic handling of microorganisms
• Familiarity with Design of Experiment (DoE) and data analysis tools (e.g., R, Python) is a plus
• Scientifically curious, organized, proactive, and eager to learn
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities
• Good command of English, both spoken and written;
  German is considered a plus
