About

the Role

The German Development Department of the company seeks a highly motivated and experienced Project Development Manager to lead utility-scale BESS projects in North-East Germany. This role, based in Hamburg, requires in-office attendance two days per week and offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge energy storage solutions. From site identification to securing permits and land, you’ll oversee the development cycle and drive projects towards realization, making a tangible difference in energy transition efforts.

Key Responsibilities

As the Project Development Manager
, you will:

  • Site Identification
    :
    Scout and evaluate suitable locations for utility-scale BESS projects in North-East Germany.
  • Land Acquisition
    :
    Negotiate and secure land agreements with landowners and key stakeholders.
  • Permit Management
    :
    Navigate and manage the complex permitting process, interfacing with local authorities and regulatory entities.
  • Project Design Coordination
    :
    Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to develop optimized project designs and comprehensive feasibility studies.
  • Planning Submissions
    :
    Lead the preparation and submission of planning applications and other necessary documentation to regulatory bodies.
  • Timelines & Budget Oversight
    :
    Monitor project schedules and balance costs, ensuring goals are achieved on time and within budget.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    :
    Build strong relationships with stakeholders, including local communities, industry partners, and government agencies.
  • Industry Insights
    :
    Stay updated on market trends, technological innovations, and regulatory landscapes within the energy storage and renewable energy sectors.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Educational Background
    : A degree in engineering, renewable energy, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Relevant Experience
    :
    Proven track record in project development, with a preference for experience in renewable energy or energy storage.
  • Regulatory Expertise
    :
    Strong understanding of permitting processes and land acquisition in Germany.
  • Project Management Skills
    :
    Proficiency in handling multiple tasks, deadlines, and complex milestones.
  • Communication & Negotiation
    :
    Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in German (native or fluent) and English, with proven ability to negotiate effectively.
  • Proactive Mindset

  • Mobility

    Willingness to travel across Germany when required.
Day-to-Day Activities

Your daily responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting site assessments to identify and evaluate potential BESS project locations.
  • Negotiating lease or purchase agreements with landowners and other key stakeholders.
  • Regular communication with permitting authorities to ensure smooth project approvals.
  • Coordinating across engineering and project teams to address design-related challenges.
  • Monitoring the adherence of project development stages to the established schedules and budgets.
  • Reporting and presenting updates, findings, and next steps to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Regularly researching industry news and updates to identify opportunities and stay competitive in the market.
