Your mission
The Sustainability Manager, together with the corporate sustainability team, will lead the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives across the logistics offices. This role focuses on reducing environmental impact, improving resource efficiency, ensuring regulatory compliance, and embedding sustainable practices across all departments.
The successful candidate will support in achieving the corporate sustainability goals in line with latest regulations and will play a key role in continuously enhancing the overall sustainability concept to meet our clients’ expectations now and in the future.
In doing so, the candidate needs to collaborate with operations, procurement, finance, and IT teams to embed sustainable practices across all departments at Bertling Logistics.
- Develop and drive the company’s sustainability and ESG strategy aligned with business objectives
- Set measurable sustainability KPIs (e.g. emissions reduction, energy efficiency, waste reduction) for our global offices
- Train the global Sustainability Advocates on emission reporting and requirements
- Track progress against KPIs, respond to our global offices and report performance to sustainability team
- Create the content for and take an active role in our mandatory sustainability trainings
- Come up with initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and review our suppliers in this regard
- Attend global sustainability events to ensure we stay up to date with industry standards, requirements and trends
- Identify opportunities for route optimization, fuel efficiency, alternative fuels, and electrification
- Come up with ideas on how to improve energy efficiency and environmental performance in our global offices and warehouses
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, industry standards, and customer sustainability requirements
- Manage sustainability reporting based on VSME standards
- Manage the maintenance and/or improvement of our Eco Vadis score and participate in related trainings and further guidance for continuous enhancement
- Engage with suppliers and partners to improve sustainability performance across the supply chain
- Support customer sustainability initiatives, meetings and respond to ESG-related client requests
- Monitor industry trends, regulations, and emerging sustainability technologies
- Build business cases for real sustainability impacts (realistic emission reductions)
- Promote a culture of sustainability awareness and continuous improvement at Bertling Logistics
- Expansion of our network of partners where suitable
- Manage quality checks for calculation of transport emission data
- Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Supply Chain, or a related field
- 3–5 years of experience in sustainability, ESG, or environmental management (logistics, transport, or industrial sectors preferred)
- Strong understanding of carbon accounting, emissions reduction strategies, and environmental regulations
- Strong analytical, reporting, and data interpretation skills
