The Clinical Department of Dental Prosthetics and Biomedical Materials Science (Director Prof. Meike Stiesch) is part of the Center for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine  clinic’s research areas are implant-associated infections, bacterial biofilms, dental stem cells and tissue engineering. The research on implant-associated infections is located at the Lower Saxony Center for Biomedical Technology, Implant Research and Development (NIFE). Here, we are offering a PhD position in the DFG-funded project “Deciphering microbe-material-interactions:
Shear force-dependent and time-resolved mechanisms of oral bacterial adhesion to implant surfaces”.

• Establishment of protocols and measurement of adhesion forces of oral bacteria under shear forces using atomic force microscopy
• Conducting microbiological flow cell experiments and confocal laser-scanning microscopy
• Setup of biophysical and statistical analysis pipeline
• Presentation and publication of results

• Very good completed Master degree in biology, biophysics, microbiology, medical technology or similar
• Very good English communication and writing skills
• Team-oriented personality that is motivated to independently familiarize themselves with new methods and techniques
• Ideally experience in microbiology, atomic force microscopy, confocal laser-scanning microscopy and/or statistics

• Enrolment in the “Implant Technologies” PhD program within the Integrated Research Training Group of the Collaborative Research Center 298 SIIRI
