AI Fintech Engineering Intern - Backend & Data Systems

the company is building an AI-driven fintech product for real estate investment decision support in Germany. The product helps private investors understand the long‑term tax, financing, renovation and cash‑flow impact of their real estate decisions before they commit capital.

We are opening a short voluntary internship opportunity for students who want to gain hands‑on experience in an early‑stage fintech/AI startup and learn how backend systems are built in a real product environment.

This internship is designed as a 10‑week learning‑oriented and study‑related practical experience. It is suitable for students who want to explore backend engineering, relational databases, REST APIs and early‑stage product development while working on a clearly scoped technical learning module.

During the internship, you may work on small backend‑related tasks such as drafting database table structures, building a small CRUD prototype, supporting API endpoint examples, preparing technical documentation, writing test scripts, or exploring how frontend data flows connect with backend logic.

You will work closely with the technical lead and founder, receive task guidance, code review and regular feedback. The focus is on learning through a real startup context and producing a concrete project outcome that you can include in your CV or portfolio.

We are looking for students with basic Python knowledge, basic SQL knowledge and curiosity about backend development in a real product environment. Experience with FastAPI, Flask, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Git or REST APIs is a plus, but not required.

You do not need to be an expert. What matters most is reliability, willingness to learn, clear communication and the ability to work on a small technical module step by step with guidance.

The internship is planned for 10 weeks. The expected workload is flexible and limited, ideally around 15 hours per week.

There are no fixed working hours. We will agree on a small learning module at the beginning and hold regular check‑ins to support your progress. This internship is not intended to replace an employee role or carry production‑critical responsibility.

This is a voluntary, unpaid internship designed for learning, orientation and study‑related practical experience. The internship is limited to 10 weeks and does not automatically extend into a paid role.

After completion, we can provide an internship certificate. Depending on your contribution, we may also provide a reference letter or Linked In recommendation.

If both sides are interested and the company later has a paid position available, we can discuss a separate paid internship or working student contract. This would be a new agreement.

You will gain hands‑on backend experience in a real fintech/AI startup, work directly with the founding team, receive mentoring and code review, and build a concrete technical outcome for your CV or portfolio.

You will also get exposure to early‑stage startup execution, including how product, engineering, user feedback, funding raising and VC development connect in practice.
