Position Overview
The University of Kassel offers a W3 professorship in Landscape Architecture | Design (m/f/d) at the Institute of Landscape Architecture and Landscape Planning. The appointment will begin on 1 April 2028; the vacancy number is 39304. The Final date to receive applications is 6 August 2026.
Responsibilities- Teach and develop design in landscape architecture, focusing on spatial, functional and procedural dimensions within both Bachelor and Master programmes.
- Develop and implement innovative design approaches in research, reflecting on current trends and sustainability in landscape architecture.
- Contribute to the strategic link between Landscape Architecture and the disciplines of Architecture and Urban Planning, supporting interdisciplinary research and teaching.
- Represent the subject ‘Landscape Architecture | Design’ in academic conferences and the professional discourse.
- Participate in academic self‑administration and in the Master’s specialisation in Urban Planning.
- Degree in landscape architecture or a comparable field with a focus on landscape architecture.
- Outstanding design achievements demonstrated by an independent, built landscape architecture project of high design quality.
- Strong research or practice‑oriented contributions to the academic discourse on landscape architecture, evidenced by relevant publications.
- Innovative design approaches and critical reflection on design methods, especially regarding sustainability and aesthetics.
- Excellent connectivity, e.g. demonstrated through international collaborations in academia and practice.
- Relevant academic teaching experience and expertise in university pedagogy.
- Willingness to teach courses in both German and English.
- International practical experience.
- Experience in design incorporating aspects of biodiversity, circularity or climate adaptation.
- Experience in securing and implementing externally funded projects.
The position offers the opportunity to work within an interdisciplinary department in a collegial environment that encourages integrated approaches to societal challenges in architecture, urban and landscape planning. The Chair will play an active role in the newly established Kassel Institute for Sustainability and will collaborate with other departments such as Open Space Planning and Landscape Architecture | Technology.
