Senior Data Engineer | €50M Revenue Life Sciences Company | Azure, Fabric & Power BI | Cologne (Hybrid)
AI Futures has been exclusively retained by a fast‑growing, profitable life sciences company operating in a highly regulated healthcare market to hire a Data Engineer.
The business operates at a ~€50M annual revenue run rate, serves a nationwide customer base, and is investing heavily in business intelligence, data infrastructure, and analytics to support its next phase of growth. Data plays a central role in decision‑making across finance, operations, supply chain, and commercial teams.
This is a hands‑on senior BI & data engineering role with real ownership. You will help design, build, and operate a modern Azure‑based BI platform end‑to‑end from ingestion to semantic layer to business reporting.
You will be required to be on‑site in Cologne 3–4 days per week.
Salary: up to €95k fixed, depending on experience.
The RoleAs a BI Data Azure Engineer, you will turn data into trusted insights by building reliable, scalable, and well‑modeled BI solutions.
- Design, develop, and operate BI solutions on Azure, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, and Microsoft Fabric
- Build and maintain end‑to‑end ETL/ELT pipelines, integrating data from files, APIs, and operational systems
- Design and implement data warehouses, data marts, and semantic layers using dimensional modeling best practices
- Build and maintain tabular models for Power BI / Analysis Services, enabling consistent metrics and self‑service reporting
- Develop and optimise SQL queries, views, and stored procedures for performant analytics
- Ensure data quality, validation, monitoring, and error handling across all stages of the data lifecycle
- Work closely with analysts and business stakeholders to translate reporting requirements into robust technical solutions
- Own monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of BI and ETL processes
- Contribute to architectural decisions within the Azure data & analytics landscape
- Document data models, pipelines, and processes clearly and maintain ably
You are a senior, hands‑on BI‑focused data engineer with strong Azure experience.
- 3+ years of experience in BI, analytics engineering, or data engineering roles
- Strong hands‑on experience with Azure Data Services (ADF, Data Lake, Azure SQL, Microsoft Fabric, Synapse)
- Excellent SQL skills (T‑SQL required; DAX strongly preferred), including performance optimisation
- Proven experience building Power BI / Analysis Services tabular models and semantic layers
- Strong understanding of data warehouse architectures, dimensional modelling (star/snowflake), and BI best practices
- Experience building and orchestrating complex ETL/ELT pipelines, including API‑based integrations
- Familiarity with Git and Dev Ops workflows for data engineering
- A strong focus on data quality, consistency, and reliability
- Fluent German and good English skills
- High‑impact BI ownership in a regulated life sciences environment
- Modern Azure‑first stack with Microsoft Fabric and Power BI
- Real business influence across critical operational and commercial functions
- Hybrid working model (3–4 days on‑site in Cologne)
