Head of Security Operations

Job Title: Head of Security Operations
Location: Cologne, Germany
Working model: Hybrid (3 days per week in the office, with some flexibility)

We are working with an international manufacturing client who is seeking an experienced Head of Security Operations to lead and strengthen their cyber defence capability. This role owns the organisation's first line of defence against cyber threats and combines senior leadership with hands on operational oversight.

You will be responsible for managing the internal cyber security team, as well as leading an external SOC provider, shaping the operating model, setting clear structures, and ensuring an effective, well organised security posture across the business.

Key responsibilities

Overall ownership of Security Operations, including SOC activities

Management of the external SOC vendor, covering performance, tooling and service quality

Leadership, structuring and development of the internal cyber security team

Acting as the first line of defence against cyber threats and incidents

Driving and implementing security proposals and improvements

Managing stakeholders across IT, the wider business and senior leadership

Ensuring alignment with recognised security frameworks and best practices

Essential experience and skills

10+ years' experience in senior Security Operations roles (for example Head of Security Operations, Head of Sec Ops or Head of SOC)

Strong knowledge of security frameworks such as NIST and ISO 27001

Proven experience managing external security vendors and internal teams

Structured, transparent and collaborative way of working

Strong communication skills and ability to align with a broad stakeholder group

Basic understanding of OT security (deep expertise not required)

Additional information

The business requires on site presence three days per week (some flexibility possible)

Candidates must be based locally in or around Cologne

This is a senior role with real ownership and visibility, suited to someone comfortable operating across strategy, operations and people leadership.
