About the Role

Join Gen Re's Life/Health R&D AI development team as a Senior AI R Developer (d/f/m) based in our Cologne office starting as soon as possible, where you'll build and maintain AI-powered applications that solve real business problems. You'll develop R packages, Shiny applications, and data pipelines that incorporate machine learning and LLMs into daily workflows. Be at the front of innovation in (Re)

What You'll Do Process Innovation & AI Implementation

• Build, maintain, and own the whole chain of internal and external AI solutions
• Analyze the full insurance value chain and its workflows to identify efficiency gains and to create and to deploy seamless AI solutions

Technical Development & Delivery

• Build and maintain production‑grade R packages, APIs, and Shiny applications that deliver value for the business
• Develop robust solutions and pipelines to seamlessly integrate AI capabilities into internal systems and client‑facing platforms
• Ensure scalability and reliability through modern Dev Ops practices including CI/CD automation

Collaboration & Impact

• Partner with cross‑functional teams across the organization to deliver solutions that solve real business challenges across the globe
• Understand the business needs and translate them into viable solutions
• Translate technical capabilities into tangible business value through user‑centric design and implementation

What You Bring Required Experience

• 5+ years in R programming, data science, or software development with a track record of delivering production solutions
• Deep expertise in the R ecosystem, including advanced package development, API development, and Shiny application architecture
• Proven experience implementing machine learning models in production environments
  
  Working knowledge of LLM technologies and frameworks (OpenAI, Hugging Face, or similar)
• Proficiency with modern Dev Ops mechanics:
  Git version control, CI/CD pipelines, unit tests, etc.

• Fluent English (required)
