We are hiring! For my working group ISAS (Integrated Sustainability Assessment of Societal Systems and Bioeconomy), I’m looking for a new colleague to join us on data engineering for sustainability assessment, monitoring, and alternative economic accounting systems.
If you have a strong background in Python and databases with interest in systems sciences, LCA, GIS, and input-output analysis, we’d love to hear from you. Join our young, dynamic interdisciplinary team in a 75% E13 position for 1.5 years with options for extension.

The ISAS working group (Integrated Sustainability Assessment of Societal Systems and Bioeconomy) within the Department SANA (System Analysis and Sustainability Assessment) is seeking a committed research associate to join as soon as possible to work on a research project. The project develops and applies innovative methods of sustainability assessment to explore the social-ecological transformation of regions.
Your tasks- Develop and integrate automated data workflows and intelligent algorithms to create a prototype tool for bioeconomy sustainability monitoring
- Apply and further develop methods for regional holistic sustainability assessment of production systems, considering ecological, social, and economic indicators
- Implement research data management and APIs for LCA software and geodata infrastructure (GDI) web applications
- Present results in presentations, reports, and scientific publications

- Completed Master’s degree in computer science, economics, or engineering
- Excellent knowledge and experience in Python, Java, and SQL-Basic understanding of sustainability and systems sciences, LCA, GIS and input-output analysis
- Knowledge in machine learning and AI is an advantage
- Interdisciplinary knowledge and interest at the interface of computer science, environmental, and social sciences
- Good proficiency in German and English, spoken and written
- Independent working style and strong problem-solving skills
