W 2-Professorship in prehistoric and protohistoric archaeology with a focus on historical and global historical archaeology
to start at the earliest possible date.
The future job holder shall be responsible for the fields of prehistoric and protohistoric archaeology – with a focus on historical and global historical archaeology – both research and teaching.
The main focus of the professorship lies in the subject area of European historical archaeology (including protohistoric archaeology and/or medieval archaeology and/or post-medieval archaeology), while considering the global dimension of social, cultural, economic, and ecological interrelationships. The future job holder should have extensive knowledge of historical archaeology and global historical archaeology, combined with knowledge of the methodological spectrum extended by the natural and life sciences.

Non-German-speaking applicants are advised that they are required to conduct courses in German after a period of three years at the latest.
The future job holder will integrate findings from archaeology, history, the natural and life sciences, as well as theory, and analyze the development of past societies using both quantitative and qualitative methods. These tasks are to be handled in the framework of interdisciplinary collaboration at the Institute of Prehistoric and Protohistoric Archaeology, the Cluster of Excellence ROOTS, the ARCWorlds Research Building, and within the priority research area Societal, Environmental and Cultural Change (SECC) of Kiel University.
Internationally, the professorship will be engaged in shaping the Collaborative Center of Archaeological Synthesis (CCSA Kiel) and the “Coalition for Archaeological Synthesis (CfAS)” network.

- a successful record in securing third-party funding,
- experience in leading and conducting archaeological fieldwork,
- attested evidence of teaching experience in protohistoric archaeology and/or medieval archaeology and/or post-medieval archaeology.
Desired qualifications include:
