Professorship of Architecture and Design – Bioregional Architect/Designer

Technical University of Munich (TUM), Arc Ed. Position starts 03.01.2026;
Final date to receive applications: 1 June 2026. Part‑time (70 %).
TUM’s Professorship of Architecture and Design, led by Prof. Niklas Fanelsa, focuses on regenerative transformation in the built environment, connecting bioregional material cycles, local value creation, and an economy of commoning.
Role Overview- Contribute to material‑focused teaching in Bachelor and Master programmes (design studios, seminars, practice‑based formats).
- Lead key dissemination formats: international publications, conferences, exhibitions.
- Contribute to spatial design development in demonstrators, prototypes, and material‑driven architectural applications.
- Further develop the professorship (e.g., Bioregional Design Lab, Material Library).
- Support organisational and communication tasks in teaching.
- Collaborate closely with the research team in regenerative design.
- Master’s degree in Architecture, Design, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of professional or academic experience.
- Experience in leading teaching formats (workshops, seminars, design studios).
- Motivation and confidence to guide architecture and design students.
- Experience in dissemination formats such as exhibitions, events, publications.
- First editorial or curatorial experience in the field.
- Knowledge of regenerative materials and their application in the built environment.
- Ability to work independently in an academic context, team‑oriented with a strong sense of responsibility.
- Experience in practice‑based research and/or interdisciplinary project teams.
- Interest in regenerative design and experimental transdisciplinary approaches.
- Strong design skills in project development and communicating results.
- Experience in architectural or spatial design within research or practice contexts.
- First experience in prototype construction, mock‑ups, or pilot‑scale design tests.
- Excellent project management and team coordination skills.
- Proven ability to engage with community stakeholders and integrate feedback into design processes.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Teaching and research environment focused on regenerative design.
- Internationally active team with close exchange with TUM’s research institutions.

- Part‑time (70 %) position with compensation according to German public regulations (TVL‑13). 2‑year contract with option to extend.
