The research center SPACE and the Munich Center for Space Communications have been awarded a grant issued by the German Government to perform a small satellite mission. Until 2026, the mission called SeRANIS (Seamless Radio Access networks for Internet of Space; ) will demonstrate various radio communication technologies on a small satellite platform. The communication technologies include advanced beamforming and precoding for 6G networks, robust and resilient IoT and LPWAN technologies as well as optical / laser communications and artificial intelligence methods.
We are currently looking for 2 highly motivated PhD students / doctoral candidates or senior researcher who are keen to be part of our research team
Research Areas- Advanced signal processing algorithms and innovative network architectures for modern communication systems.
- Machine learning, deep learning, and Artificial Intelligence techniques applied to wireless and satellite communication links.
- Satellite-based beyond-5G/6G communication networks
, including non-terrestrial network (NTN) integration. - Massive machine-type communications (mMTC) and emerging concepts for the Internet of Space
.
- Developing novel algorithms, architectures, or analytical methods to address key open research challenges in next-generation satellite communication systems.
- Publishing your research results in high-impact journals and presenting them at leading international conferences.
- Contributing to ongoing research projects
, including the preparation of technical project deliverables and reports. - Supporting the supervision and mentoring of Master’s students
, especially in topics aligned with your research.
- A Master’s degree in Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, or a closely related field, ideally with a focus on wireless or satellite communications.
- Strong programming skills
, preferably in MATLAB; experience with Python or C++ is an additional advantage. - A solid foundation in optimization methods
, machine learning
, and/or relevant algorithmic tools. - Excellent English communication skills
, both written and spoken. - A high level of commitment, strong teamwork abilities, and well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
