Junior AI Engineer - Industrial Foundation Models

We are shaping the future of domain‑specific AI systems at the BMW Group by designing, training and operating new foundation models. Our team sets standards for the safe and scalable AI in engineering and production.

• You build and adapt large language, reasoning, and multimodal models for automation across engineering, manufacturing, and robotics.
• In addition, you create data flywheels and scalable data pipelines, define and curate high‑quality fine‑tuning datasets, and design efficient annotation workflows.
• You integrate models into end‑to‑end agentic AI systems.
• You design model and data architectures, translate business needs into technical roadmaps, and optimize post‑training and fine‑tuning (e.g., RLHF, DPO, PEFT).
• Establishing frameworks for performance, safety, and security, as well as monitoring quality, drift, bias, and hallucinations, is part of your tasks.
• Not least, you partner with platform, data, and product teams to ship reliable, compliant AI services.

• University degree (PhD or Master) in computer science, AI, mathematics, or related field.
• Deep expertise with LLMs and multimodal models, plus strong knowledge of post training and fine‑tuning methods (e.g., reinforcement learning).
• Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, PyTorch or JAX) and experience with large scale cloud data and training pipelines.
• Excellent analytical and systems thinking for designing and scaling complex ML services.
• Experience integrating AI into enterprise IT environments.
• Open source contributions or relevant certifications are a plus.
