Senior​/Staff Perception Engineer | VIO, SLAM, Sensor Fusion | Munich

Our client builds perception and navigation for platforms working in GNSS-denied and contested environments, and those systems are already fielded. Not a demo reel, not a roadmap slide. Real deployments, real data coming back from conditions nobody can simulate.

They are looking for a Senior/Staff Perception Engineer to own the multi-sensor fusion stack that makes it work.

Role

You will own perception and state estimation end to end - architecture decisions are yours to make and defend, on a small team where nothing gets lost in committee.

• Sensor fusion across visual, inertial, and RF modalities where GNSS is unavailable, degraded, or actively denied
• Relative positioning and state estimation between platforms operating cooperatively
• Robust VIO and SLAM under motion blur, feature-poor terrain, and adversarial conditions
• Taking estimation performance from lab-grade to field-grade — at temperature, at speed, with a real payload
• Direct influence on sensor selection and hardware architecture, not just the software layered on top

Requirements

• Strong modern C++, with Python for tooling and analysis
• Deep practical grounding in state estimation - Kalman and factor-graph fusion you have implemented, not just called
• Experience shipping perception onto real hardware, not only benchmark datasets
• Confidence with sensor calibration, time synchronisation, and the unglamorous work that makes fusion actually converge
