Golang Engineering Manager, Commercial Systems

We are hiring a Golang Engineering Manager who will take accountability for the development of an internal product, uphold high engineering quality standards, continuously grow their own skills and those of their direct reports, and drive delivery.

The Commercial Systems unit consists of six engineering teams that collaborate closely with other engineering and business teams. Services developed and operated by this unit are at the heart of Canonical’s business, and Golang plays an integral role. The Billing team builds a scalable Golang service that turns metrics into billable amounts, lets customers view their spend in real time, and ensures accurate, reliable, and timely billing.

The Livepatch team delivers Linux kernel patches to shrink the exploit window for critical vulnerabilities, providing Golang‑based client and backend components in collaboration with the Kernel team.

• Exceptional academic track record from high school and university
• Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about an alternative chosen path
• Track record of going above and beyond expectations to achieve outstanding results
• Experience with software development in a high‑level language (Golang, Python, Java, etc.)
• Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
• Result‑oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments
• Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long

• Performance engineering and SRE experience
• Experience with accounting, sales, sales operations, or other business roles
