Staff Engineer - Client Technology (m/f/x)

You will join the Client Technology Tribe, which provides state‑of‑the‑art security to our clients in all aspects of authentication and KYC. We also develop and maintain the Salesforce platform and our public website to improve marketing communications and support processes. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will operate at a Tribe level, providing technical leadership across teams and driving the technical strategy and vision.

You will elevate the technical bar through mentorship, architectural governance, and hands‑on execution of our most complex challenges.

This role can be based in either Berlin or Munich.

• Technical Leadership & Strategy:
  Partner with the Tribe leadership team to define and drive the long‑term technical roadmap, aligning engineering efforts with overarching business goals.
• Architectural Excellence:
  Lead the design of complex, cross‑cutting distributed systems, ensuring our microservices architecture remains resilient, scalable, and maintainable.

  Mentor senior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, technical rigor, and engineering excellence across multiple teams.

  Evaluate and adopt cutting‑edge technologies and modern software practices, setting standards for AI automation, Dev Ops, and resilient architecture.

• Engineering Culture:

  Navigate ambiguous problem spaces to lead zero‑to‑one projects or complex refactors that require deep technical expertise and systems thinking.

• Extensive Technical Depth: 6+ years of experience designing and implementing highly available distributed systems, mastering Java/Kotlin, Spring Boot, Node.js/Type Script, and AWS services (ECS, Fargate, Lambda).
• Proven Leadership:
  Track record as a Staff or Principal Engineer, or a high‑impact Senior Engineer in a complex, cloud‑native environment.
• Systems Thinking:
  Deep expertise in designing and operating distributed systems at scale, evaluating trade‑offs among API/architecture styles (GraphQL vs Restful vs gRPC, sync vs async) and database technologies (relational vs non‑relational).
• Architectural Vision:
  Demonstrated ability to make high‑stakes architectural trade‑offs balancing immediate delivery with long‑term maintainability.
• Strategic Communication:
  Exceptional ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non‑technical stakeholders in clear, concise English.
• Build‑It‑Run‑It Mindset:
  Advanced experience with modern Dev Ops, infrastructure, and security best practices (Docker, Git, JWT, OAuth2). Experience driving shift‑left security and Dev Ops maturity is highly desirable.
• AI/ML Development Exposure:
  Experience using AI/ML tools or platforms to enhance software development processes, such as code generation, testing, or deployment automation.
• Domain Expertise:
  Background in the financial industry or developing highly regulated software products is a significant advantage.
• Academic Foundation:
  University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience solving large‑scale engineering problems.
