We are looking for a candidate in the Institute for Applied Materials – Energy Storage Systems (IAM‑ESS) for a 3‑year PhD project starting March 1, 2026. The role requires expertise in (solid‑state) NMR spectroscopy to characterize local structures and ion dynamics in electrolyte and electrode materials for Na‑ion batteries. Responsibilities include probing ion‑specific transport mechanisms, elucidating desodiation/resodiation mechanisms during electrochemical cycling, and applying operando NMR to observe sodium speciation, metal plating and dendrite growth.
Qualifications- A Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or related fields.
- Experience with NMR spectroscopy/relaxometry/diffusometry or with battery assembly/testing is advantageous.
