The Institute of Biological and Medical Imaging (IBMI) at Helmholtz Munich and the Chair of Biological Imaging (CBI) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) are an integrated, multi-disciplinary research unit. Together they form the cornerstone of a rapidly expanding bioengineering ecosystem in Munich, Germany; including the Helmholtz Pioneer Campus and the Research Center Transla
TUM, which integrate bioengineering with metabolic disorders and oncology, respectively.
IBMI scientists develop next-generation imaging and sensing methods to measure previously inaccessible properties of living systems, hence, catalyzing breakthroughs in biology, medicine, and the environment. Comprising 11 inter-disciplinary laboratories and scientists from more than 25 countries, IBMI offers state-of-the-art infrastructure for innovative research and an ideal environment to accelerate your career.
The IBMI science management team provides comprehensive administrative support to our researchers, giving them room to focus their full creative potential on developing the imaging and sensing technology of tomorrow. We now seek a highly qualified and motivated science manager (f/m/x) to support our ongoing third-party projects and the preparation of new grant applications.
Your tasks- Take the lead in managing national and international research projects
, including financial and personnel planning, as well as preparing scientific and financial reports (e.g. for DFG, BMBF, EU, NIH). - Coordinate and prepare applications for third-party funding from German, European, and international funding agencies.
- Act as the interface between scientists at IBMI
, central administrations of Helmholtz Munich and TUM, external partners, and funding institutions worldwide. - Plan, organize, and participate in scientific meetings and workshops in Munich and abroad.
- Review and edit scientific texts tailored to diverse audiences, including researchers, funding bodies, regulatory authorities, and the general public.
- Support IBMI’s internal operations
, as well as its science communication, public relations, and outreach activities.
- You hold a Master’s or PhD degree in the natural sciences, engineering, physics, medical technology, biomedical computing – or a related field.
- You have experience or a strong interest in science management, especially in coordinating research projects and managing funding and finances (e.g. EU-funded projects).
- You enjoy writing and communicating scientific content
, whether for funding proposals, internal reporting, or public-facing formats. - You bring strong organizational skills and the ability to keep an overview of several tasks – even when things get complex.
- You are comfortable using common software (e.g. MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Graph Pad) and are fluent in English and German (written and spoken).
- You work in a solution-oriented and structured way
, like to take responsibility, and are open to learning about new research topics. - You are a team player who values collaboration just as much as independent work.
If you fulfill all the requirements, you may be eligible for a salary grade of up to E 14. Social benefits are based on the Collective Wage Agreement for Public-Sector Employees (TVöD). The position has an (initial) fixed term of 2 years but may be extended under certain circumstances.
