Postdoctoral Researcher in Aerosol & Liquid Jet Dynamics
Location: Hamburg
Position details: Remuneration Group 13, limited to 3 years, starting date earliest possible, full‑time/part‑time, remote work possible.
About the group: The Chemistry in Aerosols, Atmosphere, and Aqueous solutions (FS‑CIA3) group works on a molecular‑level understanding of aerosol chemistry and the role of water. Using advanced X‑ray spectroscopy and imaging at PETRA III/IV, FLASH, and European XFEL, experimental and theoretical work is combined with machine‑learning strategies.
Responsibilities- Carry out scientific research in aerosol and liquid jet applications, focusing on experimental investigations and method development.
- Plan, set up, and conduct experiments, including preparation, operation, and maintenance of specialized equipment.
- Analyze experimental data and collaborate with simulations to interpret results and validate models.
- Document and publish research findings in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Completed university‑level education and a PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science, or equivalent. Doctorate must be completed before the position starts and not older than 5 years.
- Knowledge of aerosol dynamics and generation.
- Practical experience with scientific X‑ray methods.
- Strong experimental skills and interest in instrument development.
- Experience with data analysis, simulations, and Artificial Intelligence is an asset.
- Experience designing and setting up small‑ to medium‑size scientific equipment.
- Excellent English language skills and ability to work in a team.
