The Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH Göttingen (GWDG) serves as the university computing center for the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and functions as a key IT and computing competence center for the Max Planck Society. With over 40 years of experience, GWDG has established itself as a leader in providing high-performance computing (HPC) systems and advanced IT infrastructure to support cutting-edge research across various scientific disciplines.
In 2020, GWDG was recognized as one of the eight national high-performance computing centers within the German NHR network, underscoring its strategic importance in the national research landscape. The organization also operates the KISSKI AI service center and collaborates on international projects such as the EU AI Factory HammerHAI. Additionally, GWDG provides HPC resources for the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and facilitates access to quantum computing resources through initiatives like the QUICS project, supporting SMEs and researchers in harnessing quantum technology for industry and academia.
The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Quantum Software Engineer (m/f/d) to join our interdisciplinary HPC team s full-time position (39 hours per week) is integral to the GWDG QC project's ongoing efforts, which are scheduled to run until October 2029. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing and enhancing GWDG's Quantum Computing (QC) ecosystem, with a focus on anomaly detection applications for industry.
The role involves designing and implementing a containerized FullStaQD platform as a reference architecture, ensuring it is modular, scalable, and secure. The engineer will work closely with researchers and industry partners to build a robust platform capable of integrating heterogeneous APIs, HPC scheduler systems such as SLURM, and adhering to strict data security standards, including GDPR compliance. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to pioneering research at the intersection of quantum computing, high-performance computing, and artificial intelligence in a stimulating academic and industrial environment.
The ideal candidate will possess a PhD and/or Master's degree in Computer Science, Physics, or a related field, complemented by demonstrable research or industry experience in software development. Proven coding expertise is essential, particularly in developing complex software without AI assistance, including working with functions, classes, variables, and array methods. Experience in designing and managing containerized systems, establishing CI/CD pipelines, and implementing automated testing frameworks is required.
Familiarity with handling heterogeneous APIs, integrating HPC scheduler systems like SLURM, and understanding quantum computing job characteristics and resource requirements is highly desirable. Knowledge of encryption standards, data protection regulations, and GDPR compliance is also important. Candidates should demonstrate excellent teamwork, communication skills, and fluency in English, both spoken and written.
