Our client is a global technology leader in test & measurement and secure communications, with a significant engineering presence in Berlin. They design and manufacture high-performance directional radio communication systems used across defence, government, and critical infrastructure applications worldwide. The organisation is known for deep hardware engineering expertise and offers specialists the chance to work end-to-end on cutting-edge digital hardware, from schematic design through to production-ready assemblies.
The RoleWe're looking for a Digital Firmware/FPGA Development Engineer to contribute to the development and integration of innovative digital hardware assemblies for high-performance directional radio communication systems. You'll work across FPGA development, firmware, schematic design, and verification — collaborating closely with Systems Engineering, software, electrical and mechanical design teams, as well as customers.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop digital firmware and FPGA components for radio devices, including selection and integration of digital hardware and analog HW interfaces
- Carry out schematic design and circuit simulation; supervise PCB layout using modern CAE tools
- Contribute significantly to the development and integration of assemblies for directional radio communication systems
- Verify and validate circuit and firmware performance through measurement and testing — from component characterisation through to system integration
- Use professional measurement equipment: oscilloscope, network analyser, signal generator
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Systems Engineering, SW development, electrical/mechanical design, and customers to ensure successful system integration
- Degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Communications/Telecommunications, or comparable discipline
- Several years of hands‑on experience in digital hardware development
- Practical experience with complex HW designs — FPGAs, SoCs, DDR Memory, High-Speed-Digital interfaces, and Power Supply through to production-ready assemblies
- Experience commissioning, testing, and verifying HW assemblies using professional measurement equipment
- Fluent German and good English (written and spoken)
- Highly structured, precise, and responsible working style with strong teamwork and communication skills
- FPGA development experience with solid knowledge of VHDL
- Experience with receivers, RF frontends, and radio communication systems
