The opportunity To strengthen our Legal Department in Mannheim, we are looking for an engaged Senior Legal Counsel (f/m/d). From Mannheim, you will advise the HVDC business unit of Hitachi Energy in an international environment on all legal matters, with a particular focus on complex bids and EPC projects (e.g., offshore wind connections or interconnectors). This is a hybrid role, offering a flexible working model with 2–3 days on-site in Mannheim and up to 2 days working from home.
Responsibilities- Independently advise and support the HVDC business in the drafting, negotiation, execution, and management of complex project contracts, particularly in sales law, contract for work and services, and plant construction law, both domestically and internationally.
- Support operational units in internal processes, especially in risk review procedures.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, guidelines, and applicable laws, and support their implementation.
- Monitor legal developments and train employees on relevant legal topics.
- Support the adaptation of existing policies or creation of new directives and their implementation.
- Collaborate in national and international project teams with in‑house colleagues, other functions, and external counsel where required.
- Work closely with legal colleagues across regions, particularly within the DACH region and Grid Integration Legal Community.
- Defend and enforce Hitachi Energy’s legal claims, including before courts, arbitration tribunals, and public authorities, both domestically and internationally.
- Engage and coordinate external law firms in Germany and abroad.
- Fully qualified lawyer with above‑average results in both state examinations and 8–10 years of professional experience in an industrial company or law firm.
- Strong experience in plant construction / EPC business, including negotiation of complex, high‑value contracts and claims management.
- Familiarity with international contract standards (e.g., FIDIC) and experience in arbitration proceedings.
- Strong business acumen, excellent communication skills, and ideally knowledge of public procurement law.
- Ability to work independently, solution‑oriented, and in close partnership with the business, cross‑functions, and international colleagues.
- Strong team spirit, resilience, and ability to manage complex situations during both tender and execution phases.
- Fluent in German and English, both written and spoken.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Open to AI‑driven solutions, with initial experience in applying AI in a professional context.
