Backend Software Engineer; m​/f​/x

We develop image analysis tools that help scientists work with peta-scale microscopy images. Our WEB KNOSSOS platform is a leading tool for sharing and collaborating on image data of that scale. The server backend of WEB KNOSSOS is written in Scala with help from Postgres, RocksDB and a little Python. We need your help to develop new features, optimize existing use cases and integrate with other tools.

• Expand and develop new features for the open-source WEB KNOSSOS server backend. Tech stack:
  Scala, Postgres, Python
• Design, own and develop highly scalable services for working with petabyte-sized image datasets
• Engineer fast and scalable storage solutions for 3D image data annotations
• Integrate APIs and data formats with other open-source, scientific tools and workflows
• Work with a high degree of freedom and self-organisation in a tech-savvy team
• Build tools for customers from neurosciences and support biomedical research

• You know Scala or are willing to learn it
• You take pride in teaching and leading from teammates, and enjoy constructive peer review in a respectful environment
• You have proficiency with Git, Git Hub, and agile software development
• You know how to clearly structure solutions in code
• You have strong oral and written language skills in German and English
• You bring applicable knowledge of building a modern web stack, e.g. client-server architectures, REST APIs, databases
• Experience with Python is a bonus

WEB KNOSSOS is an open-source web-platform for viewing, annotation, and sharing peta-scale 3D microscopy datasets for biomedical research. Our team primarily consists of software engineers and hard, techy problems inspire our work.
