The State Museum of Natural History Stuttgart (SMNS) is one of the largest and most popular natural history museums in Germany. The SMNS is participating in the EU-joint-project TETTRIX (TETTRIs next level for the taxonomy of tomorrow) and will lead initiatives such as Taxonomists4

Future and the Taxonomy Ambassadors Programme. We are closely collaborating with the University of Hohenheim and the Center for Biodiversity and Integrative Taxonomy (Kom Bio Ta ) as well as the European project partners in CETAF (Consortium of European Taxonomic Facilities). CETAF represents 71 European natural history museums, botanical gardens, and research centres and contains internationally significant research collections.

We are seeking to fill a position as soon as possible:

Scientific Project manager (m/f/d) for the EU-joint-project TETTRIX

fixed term, part-time (70%)

You are a solution-oriented team player who communicates in an appreciative and cooperative manner. With your commitment and ideas, you will help shape the future of our museum.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • As responsible scientific project manager of TETTRIX, you will ensure that all deliverables are met within the project timeline, act as SMNS’ main contact person, represent our institution at workshops, meetings, and conferences and also organize these events
  • Project coordination/management and reporting
  • Taxonomy Ambassador Programme:
    You will design and establish a Taxonomy Ambassador Programme to connect with researchers, NGOs, politicians and companies.
  • Taxonomist in residence:
    You will network with industrial partners and pilot a programme to place Taxonomists in companies to support their biodiversity strategy.
  • You will support the Science-Policy-Society Interface for Taxonomy, identify opportunities for capacity building and organize science-policy training for the taxonomic community.
You have the following skills and knowledge:
  • PhD in natural sciences (preferably with a background in taxonomy), or equal qualifications/ skills in project management
  • Excellent command of English and communication skills to negotiate in international panels and committees
  • Relation to academic education and/or collection-based biodiversity research
  • You are open for new tasks, quick to familiarising yourself with new topics and ready to present them to expert panels
  • Capacity for teamwork, high resilience and commitment

Remuneration will be according to the German civil salary scale E 13 TV-L. The position is tied to the project period of TETTRIX and therefore limited until 31.08.2030.
