International House Vancouver:
Since 1998, International House Vancouver has offered unique, educational, and fun English language (ESL) programs for young learners to suit every need, budget and language ability. In Summer, we offer a Children's Adventure Program for children ages 5-12 suitable for mother & child or family study. We also provide a Homestay Junior Program for 13-17 year olds, as well as a Residential Junior program on the campus of the University of British Columbia for ages 9-17.
English as a Second Language (ESL) Summer Programs:
ESL Residential Junior Program at UBC (University of British Columbia) - ages 9-17:
This summer study / holiday program combines intensive English classes with a great range of social activities and fun excursions. Offered in July and August, students have a great time while learning!
Students have 20 hours of English language classes per week, which are taught in small classes (maximum 15 students per class) by fully trained and qualified instructors.
Students stay in either shared or private rooms on the UBC campus. Their classrooms are only a short walk from their residence. All meals are included, and there is 24-hour supervision.
Our junior learners will enjoy inclusive daily, local activities, as well as weekend excursions. The program also includes;
- 2-way airport transfer
- Books and study material
- Entrance and final exams
- Farewell party every Friday evening
- Certificate of Completion
UBC on-campus facilities and amenities include:
Tennis courts, squash courts, swimming pools, baseball and soccer fields, pool tables and recreation rooms in each residence hall, as well as use of the University libraries and internet access.
The University has some of the city’s best recreation facilities and attractions, including the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, the Museum of Anthropology, the UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research, and endless forested trails in the adjoining 763-hectare Pacific Spirit Regional Park.
ESL Children's Adventure Program (CAP) - ages 5-12:
IH Vancouver offers the CAP for children with all levels of English ability. This program is offered in July & August (open to groups in other months.)
This is a theme-based and multi-level program, which combines educational lessons with in-class activities and excursions. The program includes a minimum of 2 full-day field trips per week.
Our CAP staff are all accredited and certified elementary school teachers who are experienced in teaching international students.
Class sizes are kept small (maximum of 15 per class) to ensure that each student gets the individual attention they need in an immersive learning atmosphere.
Children interact with peers from all over the world, making friendships that will last a lifetime.
ESL Homestay Junior Program - ages 13-17:
Designed for students with all levels of English ability, this program is ideal for improving English language skills, while exploring Vancouver and making friends from all over the world.
Offered in July and August, our activity-based ESL junior programs are taught in small class sizes (maximum of 15 students per class) by fully trained and qualified instructors.
In addition to English classes which cover all the major language skills areas and interesting in-class activities, students will field trips to exciting locations around Vancouver. Additional weekend excursions are also available.
This program is open to groups in other months by request. Special group rates are available.
Students in these two programs stay within our network of friendly homestay families. This allows for visiting families to stay together and the possibility for greater immersion into Canadian culture.
Ideal for Families:
International House Vancouver provides the ideal solution for families who are searching for an enriching study/ travel experience in Vancouver. The campus for the Young Learner programs is located only a short distance (just 5 minutes by bus) from the adult campus.
The study hours are exactly the same for both the adult and children’s programs. Numerous weekend excursions are available for families to popular destinations such as the Rocky Mountains, Victoria, Whistler, and Tofino.
Winter ESL Program:
We also offer a Winter Junior Program for kids ages 13-17, which takes place from late December to mid February.
