Located in Lake View Terrace, in the foothills of the beautiful Angeles National Forest, Delphi Academy of Los Angeles is a coeducational day school providing a preschool through 12th grade program. We are one of several schools in the Delphi Schools Network, a group of independent schools sharing uniquely developed curriculum and teaching methods. At Delphi Academy, our philosophy of education is simple. Students should master their basic tools very well - then learn to really use what they learn.

Our teaching and study methods emphasize practical application - because only in meaningful use can one work out the proper value of the many pieces of knowledge encountered in an education.

This approach keeps our students continually evaluating new information in relation to the real world. Their educations become something they build and own, not something piled onto them.

Using the Study Technology developed by American philosopher and educator L. Ron Hubbard, students are put firmly in the driver's seat for learning.

Mr. Hubbard identified barriers to study that individuals face when trying to learn something new, but more importantly, he developed methods to overcome these barriers that any person can apply.

With these methods, Delphi students learn how to recognize when they don't understand something and what to do about it.

All of our teachers have been thoroughly trained in the study and teaching methods practiced at Delphi Academy. All students begin the curriculum with courses on how to study, whether they are coming for just the summer program or are year-round students.

In addition to rounding out academic studies in literature, mathematics, writing, science, history, and government, our students gain practical understanding and experience in the subjects of leadership, integrity and logic, as well as management and organizational skills.

Integrated Approach to Teaching:
We use an integrated approach to teaching. Students delve into a wide variety of academic subjects that both parallel and access the real world. No subject is isolated, and all subjects require the student to engage in explorative, hands-on activities, both inside and outside of the classroom.

At the lower levels, this hands-on approach can be found in the many field trips students take, in the "projects" they tackle, and in the emphasis throughout the day on practical activities.

In the Elementary and Middle Schools, "projects" become more involved and field trips are often more extended. In the Upper School, much of the students' time is spent applying learned material.

A large part of our success lies in the dedication, care and competence of our faculty, many of whom have been with us since our inception. There are 50 full- and part-time staff, of which 28 are teaching faculty.

In addition to their academic degrees, our teaching faculty has all received intensive training in the Study Technology as well as the Heron Curriculum™ and Heron Basics™ educational materials.
