Difficulties that may be encountered by citizens are of various natures. In any case they can contact the Representations of Republic of Albania for advice or help. Dealerships may help especially when citizens have problems and difficulties with the authorities of the host country. In these cases, it is important to consider that the representative offices are not information agencies of travel information agencies.

The Albanian Embassy can assist with the following:

  • advise on how to transfer money through a bank or other money transfer company (such as Western Union),
  • transfer funds to help those in distress,
  • help victims of sudden illness, accidents and crimes so that they can get the medical care or other immediate assistance they need,
  • grant a temporary passport for repatriation (to replace a passport which is outdated or which has been lost, stolen or destroyed),
  • contact the insurance company in cases of sickness or death,
  • help those in distress or crisis situations, or those taken into custody, to get in touch with their next of kin

Albanian citizens living abroad will apply in person for a biometric passport in the premises specified by the manufacturing firms for this purpose. Currently these facilities are located only in Albania, at the Civil Registry Offices in the Municipal Units.

The citizens up to 6 years obtain a biometric passport without taking fingerprints, but always being present in the application process. Biometric passport will be done within 15 days from the date of application. Upon receipt of the new passport, citizens are made aware of the invalidity of the previous passport.

When entering Albania:

  • All the foreigners who have a valid multi – entry Schengen visa, type “C” or “D”, or a valid residence permit in one of the Schengen member states, can enter, stay and transit Albania without visa, within the validity term of the visa or the residence permit;

All holders of Laissez-Passer issued by United Nations Organisations, and its branch, NATO, Council of Europe and European Union, regardless of nationality.
