The Administrative and Consular Section deals with all matters related to passports, visa and judicial affairs and also all administrative matters concerning the Embassy.

In case of a lost passport one needs:

  • Provide copy of lost passport
  • Provide police report establishing loss of passport
  • Additional fee of $25 is required for lost, damaged or stolen passports.

NOTE: A non-refundable US Post Office money-order only acceptable made payable to the order of the Embassy of Algeria. Please write first and last names of applicant at bottom of money-order. Cash and personal checks are not accepted.

A Laissez-Passer is a travel document issued in exceptional cases to enable the beneficiary to return to Algeria. It cannot be used as an identity document. The Laissez-Passer has very limited validity and should only be used to enter Algeria on a direct flight. Laissez-Passer is issued to any Algerian citizen not registered at the Embassy who has reported the loss or the theft of his/her passport and wishes to return to Algeria as soon as possible.

Power of Attorney (Procuration) is for the Algerian citizen only. This document is issued to Algerian citizens living in the United States to enable them to grant someone living in Algeria the legal capacity to act on their behalf, represent them and conduct business or any transaction in their stead. Power of Attorney can only be granted on behalf of the applicant who must necessarily submit his/her application in person at the Embassy.

Requirements for National Identity Card:

  • Copy of consular card- Application available at the embassy
  • Recent birth certificate- Three (3) similar recent passport-sized photographs
  • Previous Identity Card if any.
  • $1,25 Money Order to the order of the Embassy of Algeria

Applicants must apply in person at the Embassy. ID Card cannot be mailed.
