The Australian High Commission in Wellington and the Australian Consulate-General in Auckland represent Australia in New Zealand, Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau Islands.
Both diplomatic missions also act on behalf of Australian Government authorities by representing Australia's interests to government and business organizations. The Australian Trade Commission (Austrade), and Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) have offices in the Consulate-General while the Department of Defence have theirs at the High Commission.
The Political and Economic Section at the High Commission monitors political and economic developments in New Zealand and represents Australia's interests to the New Zealand Government.

Australians travelling for extended periods or planning to reside in New Zealand may wish to register online with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Registration information will help the Embassy to find their citizens in an emergency - whether it is a natural disaster, civil disturbance or a family emergency. The information is strictly protected by the Privacy Act 1988. To ensure this information is kept safe during transmission the Department uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and Firewall technology.
Emergency Passport: Subject to meeting eligibility criteria, the applicant may be issued an urgent, four page, limited validity emergency passport (issued within two working days - not including postage time). Payment for such applications can only be made by eftpos, bank cheque or money order. Not all passport applications are eligible for this service. One should contact the Consular Office prior to lodging their application. Due to its limited validity, an emergency passport may not be suitable for some types of travel or visa applications.
Passport processing time is 10 working days provided all requirements are met. Please allow extra days for courier time within New Zealand.
To avoid delays the applicant should ensure her/his identifier is easily contactable by telephone during normal business hours.
The Australian High Commission in Wellington accepts cheques or money orders made payable to the Australian High Commission. Please do not send postdated cheques. Eftpos facility available for applications lodged in person. Credit cards not accepted.
The Australian Consulate General in Auckland accepts cheques made payable to the Australian Consulate General or the Australian Trade Commission. Eftpos/credit card facility available for applications lodged in person only. Please note money orders are not accepted at the Australian Consulate-General.
