The Australian Embassy in London can provide the following services:

  • provide assistance in the case of an accident, serious illness or death, and arrange for next-of-kin to be informed
  • provide assistance if one is arrested and arrange for their family to be informed if the person wishes
  • provide a list of local solicitors
  • help during emergencies such as civil disturbances and natural disasters
  • provide the latest travel advice and information about security and health conditions in many parts of the world
  • provide a range of other information useful to travelling Australians
  • witness and certify signatures and provide certain other notarial and legal services

One must promptly report the loss or theft of the passport.  It is an offence to fail to report the loss or theft of Australian passport as soon as one learn of the loss.  By reporting the loss, the  passport can be immediately and permanently cancelled, and cannot be used to enter or leave any country, thereby significantly reducing the chances of its misuse by terrorists or other criminals.  Border control authorities in Australia and abroad will confiscate any cancelled passport that comes to their notice.

Notarial acts are performed at the Australian High Commission in London between 9.30 - 11.30 each week day - excluding UK Bank and Australian Public holidays. One can access this service by simply attending the Consular Section during these times. High Commission staff will make all copies from original documents presented by clients. Unfortunately, photocopies provided by clients cannot be certified. Consular staff cannot provide advice on specific legal requirements, including what documents need to be signed or certified.
