Fiji citizens visiting New Zealand are subject to its laws and are legally accountable to acts they commit within the country. In the event of a Fiji citizen in difficulty, the Fiji High Commission will ensure that the person receives the benefit of the same laws, administration, protection and means of redress which New Zealand affords its own subjects.

The High Commission can assist with the following:

  • Issue emergency travel documents.
  • In the case of an accident, serious illness, or death inform the next of kin.
  • Provide a list of doctors and lawyers.
  • Visit jail and inform next of kin in the case where one is arrested.
  • Help during emergencies, such as natural disasters.

Holders of New Zealand Passports are granted visitors visas valid for fourteen days on arrival at the port of entry. Extensions may be sought and granted for up to six months on condition that the visitors hold valid passports (valid for six months beyond the intended period of stay in Fiji), return/onward air tickets and sufficient funds for the duration of stay.

The Fiji High Commission in Wellington receives applications for new passports from Fiji nationals in New Zealand whose passports have expired/ expiring and for replacement of lost passports. In exceptional circumstances, where a person without a valid passport needs to travel urgently to Fiji, the High Commission may issue a Certificate of Identity in consultation with the Director for Fiji Immigration.
