The Consular Section of the Embassy of Mexico in Washington DC has a Protection Department whose purpose is to safeguard, in accordance with the principles and norms of international law, in compliance with the laws and regulations of the United States, the rights and interests of Mexicans and residents in the consular district (ie the District of Columbia and the states of Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia), regardless of their immigration status.

  • Spare them undue harm and injury to their persons or interests.
  • Avoid unfairness or arbitrariness by foreign authorities.

The head of the Consular Section of the Embassy of Mexico in Washington DC, is authorized to act on functions of a notary public in various events, such as proxies, wills and waiver of hereditary rights. The Consular Section can also revoke a proxy previously granted to Mexican Consul Mexican or notary public. This addition to the above requirements should submit a copy of the power that you want to revoke.

Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given  on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.
