Nationals of certain countries need a visa in order to visit Norway for up to 90 days. All foreign nationals who are to stay in Norway for more than 90 days must have a residence permit. Foreign nationals who are to work in Norway will in many cases need to have a residence permit, even for stays of less than 90 days.  Foreign nationals who are required to have a visa are also obliged to have travel medical insurance.  Some people can visit Norway without a visa, but most people from countries outside the EU/EEA must apply for a visitor's visa. Citizens of Latvia do not need a visa to visit Norway for up to 90 days.

NOTE: Latvian Identity Cards are not recognized as travel documents in Norway. Travelers should have a valid passport with them.

Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given  on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.
