People of certain nationalities need a visa to visit Norway for 90 days. All those who remain for more than 90 days in Norway need a residence permit.

Citizens of Portugal do not need a visa to visit Norway for up to 90 days. However, there are additional rules visitors must follow:

  • They can stay in Norway and the rest of the Schengen area for up to 90 days during a period of 180 days.
  • They can divide the 90 days over several visits and travel freely in and out of Norway.
  • If they have been in the Schengen area in the last 90 days, they must check when it is possible for them to re-enter, and how many days they can stay in Schengen.
  • If they have had a residence permit in Norway which has expired, they must travel out of Norway and the Schengen area. They can then travel into Norway again and stay here for up to 90 days without a visa.
  • They must normally have NOK 500 available for each day of their stay in Norway. They may be asked to document this when they enter Norway. If they are staying with family of friends, they do not need to have this much money.
  • They must be able to travel back to their home country or the country in which they hold a residence permit at the end of their stay.
  • Normally, they cannot work in Norway during their visit.
