The Norwegian Embassy represents Norway in the Republic of South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Madagascar and Lesotho. The Embassy promotes Norwegian interests, and political and economic objectives, in addition to providing consular services.

The main services provided by the Embassy include:

All passports for adults and children over 12 must be applied for in person at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Pretoria. The appointment should be at least two months before the expiry of your passport. In order to apply for a Norwegian passport you need to have a Norwegian personal number (ID number). If you do not have a personal number, you must apply for this before lodging a passport application. Passport applications take approx. 3/4 weeks from the passport is produced in Norway to the passport is back in Pretoria.

Lost or stolen passport:
The applicant is required to report the loss of passport to local police. When you get the police report you can apply for a new passport at the embassy. You need to bring another form of Norwegian identification, such as Norwegian driver’s license, Norwegian banker’s card, Norwegian birth certificate, etc. A special form for loss of passport must be completed in duplicate (this form may be obtained at the Embassy).

Emergency passports:
An emergency passport is issued in the same way and according to the same rules as previously. A decision to issue an emergency passport shall be registered in the program to ensure that the applicant's passport history is complete. 2 - two - passport photos are required for emergency passports. Same form will be used for emergency passport applications. The passport will be handwritten and laminated and can be used for one trip only.

Nationals of South Africa need a visa in order to visit Norway for up to 90 days. All foreign nationals who are to stay in Norway for more than 90 days must have a residence permit. Foreign nationals who are to work in Norway will in many cases need to have a residence permit, even for stays of less than 90 days.

NOTE: All fees have to be paid when submitting the application. All fees are to be paid in ZAR. The fee is a consideration fee. Cheques are not accepted as payment for visa fees. The fee will not be returned if the case is refused or withdrawn.
