The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Canberra represents the Norwegian Government in Australia, Cook Islands, Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Tonga and Tuvalu. Within this area it is the task of the Embassy to promote Norwegian interests and to develop the good relations that exist between Norway and the Governments and people of these countries. Another important task for the Embassy is to offer consular assistance to Norwegians.

The Embassy provides assistance with passports:

  • Applications for Norwegian passports
  • Appointment system for passport applications submitted at the Norwegian Embassy in Canberra
  • Emergency passports
  • Lost or stolen passports
  • Information concerning Norwegian citizenship for persons who emigrated between 1960 and 1975

Other consular services include:

  • Citizenship matter
  • Obtaining Norwegian birth certificates
  • Obtaining Norwegian police certificates
  • Name change
  • Bringing urn and ashes to Norway, etc.

Lost passport enquiries are not considered an emergency. Please send an email to emb.canberra.consular@mfa.no detailing your situation or call the Embassy during office hours.

In case of a lost passport it must be reported to the local police immediately. In addition, if the loss occurs outside Norway, the loss must be reported to the nearest Norwegian Embassy or Consulate. The Embassy can also issue emergency passport in certain situations.

There are ten Norwegian honorary consulates in the Embassy's area (six in Australia, two in New Zealand, one in Fiji and one in Papua New Guinea) that can assist in consular matters. Due to unforeseen circumstances, opening hours may change at short notice, so please contact the relevant consulate for details about opening hours and booking of appointments before you visit.

The Embassy is closed on most Australian and Norwegian Public Holidays.
