Russian Consulates and the Embassy ensure all co-nationals protection against the violation of their fundamental rights and the limitation or privation of their personal freedom. They also ensure emergency assistance; help in locating family members, inheritance procedures initiated abroad and for the repatriation of mortal remains. The consular services include:

  • Deals with matters related to acceptance, renunciation of Russian citizenship;
  • Issues civil status certificates (birth, marriage, dissolution of marriage, adoption, establishment of paternity, change of name, surname, death);
  • Issues passports, certificates of return;
  • Provides legalization, apostille services;
  • Registers Russian citizens living abroad;
  • Issues visas;
  • Provides notarial services;
  • Deals with matters related to social benefits (pensions);
  • Procures personal documents from Russia.

Citizens of the Russian Federation outside the Russia shall have the right to register with the diplomatic mission or consular post.

Foreign registration of Russian citizens is purely voluntary and is carried out at the request of the person, regardless of the purpose and duration of stay.

Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given  on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.

Please note that visa processing starts only after you have submitted to the Consular section all the documents required. The Embassy does not accept any documents, which have been sent to the Consular section by fax or e-mail. Please note that tourist visa can be issued for no longer than 30 days. When entering Russia with a tourist visa, you may be asked at the border checkpoint to present also your tourist confirmation, the voucher and a return ticket with a fixed date of departure from Russia. You also may have to prove that you have sufficient funds for your travel.
