Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1973, the Republic of Korea and Finland have cooperated in many areas.  Today, Finland is the closest European destination via direct flight from Korea.  Both nations are mutually cooperative in many areas based on shared similarities such as the preservation of proud histories despite limited natural resources and geopolitically challenging environments.

South Korean Embassy ensures all co-nationals protection against the violation of their fundamental rights and the limitation or privation of their personal freedom. They also ensure emergency assistance; help in locating family members, inheritance procedures initiated abroad and for the repatriation of mortal remains. The consular services include:

  • Registry
  • Repatriation and repatriation for health reasons
  • Citizenship
  • Military service
  • Notary services
  • Passports
  • Pensions
  • Civil status
  • Study
  • Visas, etc.

Finnish passport holders can enter Korea without a visa as long as the purpose of their visit is tourism or temporary visit up to 90 days. If they want to engage in profitable activities such as employment, they must apply for a Korean visa suitable for their purpose.

Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given  on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.

In addition to the official Finnish holidays, the embassy is closed on the 1st of March, 15th of August, 3rd of October and 9th of October.
