The Republic of Korea and New Zealand established diplomatic relations in 1962 although the beginning of the close relationship between our two countries can be traced back to the Korean War, when 6,000 strong young kiwi soldiers came to help defend freedom and democracy of the ROK.

The Working Holiday Program was created under the mutual cooperation and establishment of Memorandum of Understandings between the Republic of Korea and 6 participating countries (Australia, Canada, France, Japan, United States and New Zealand) with the purpose of providing opportunities to individuals from each respective country to travel to Korea, while allowing them to earn and save money through short-term employment.
