The vibrant Korean-American community has played a pivotal role bridging Korea and the United States. Through hard work, integrity, and leadership in many fields, over two million Americans of Korean descent have contributed in immeasurable ways not only to the ROK-US alliance, but also to society in general. Looking forward, I believe this community can play an even more visible role conducting outreach in the U.S. society, and that together we can work side-by-side to promote Korea-US relations in a meaningful way.

South Korean Consulates and the Embassy ensure all co-nationals protection against the violation of their fundamental rights and the limitation or privation of their personal freedom. They also ensure emergency assistance; help in locating family members, inheritance procedures initiated abroad and for the repatriation of mortal remains. The consular services include:

  • Registry
  • Repatriation and repatriation for health reasons
  • Citizenship
  • Military service
  • Notary services
  • Electoral services
  • Passports
  • Pensions
  • Civil status
  • Study
  • Visas, etc.

Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given  on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.
